Nobody tells you what really matters

It was 9th or 10th grade when I told my father that I want to study people and cultures and not technology. I was asking him to let me change my subjects from Science to Humanities. He persuaded me to first get done with matric and then think about it. I don’t recall what happened later. After a few years, I had a degree in computer science.

It has been 8 years since graduation. I made and spent a lot of money using my—apparently good—programming skills. It’s boring. You just can’t spent your life working fixed hour every day, for decades. This whole scheme is broken. It works from the outside, but it’s dead inside. We are dead inside.

I used to write poems when I was in college. A professor (of literature, no less) advised me to first “become something” and then waste time in poetry. After achieving what my family and professors wanted, I am now back where I was. I write poetry. I study culture.

Nobody tells you what really matters.
