Ethiopia: Learning an Ancient Script

The script in which Amharic language is written dates back to 9th century BC! It’s pretty interesting and easy to follow.

There are 33 sounds/letters each with 7 variants (vowels) that are represented by modifying the letters just a bit. Which makes for very compact words in writing.

“Lalibela”, for example, takes up 8 letters in English, but in Amharic it simply is ላሊበላ (La, Li, Be, La).

If I were a full-on traveler, I would have definitely learned so many scripts and languages. Hazaron khaahishein aisi…!
